Picturebooks – trends on the world book market

The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the issues of picturebooks and their contemporary global trends. After completing the course a student will be able to define what picturebooks are and develop critical approach to their evaluation, as well as indicating their subgenres. A student would be able to name the most prominent contemporary artists, in addition to mentioning major topics and the worldwide dominant trends. Finally, a student will also be ready to review a selected picturebook independently.
Program content:
- Definitions and typology of picturebooks.
- The history of the picturebook and its current position.
- The picture book market in different countries (eg the United States, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Poland).
- Analysis and evaluation of selected picture books.
